Top 5 Ways to Warm Up your Floors this Winter

by Floor Authority

Myrtle Beach is not known for its freezing cold temperatures or winter flurries, but it does get fairly cold during the winter months. Are you looking for ways to keep your feet warm and not have to wake up to freezing floors? Here are our top 5 ways to warm up your floors this winter!

#1. Area Rugs

Area rugs are going to be the easiest and most cost-effective solution to warming up the floors. Not only will they create a warm and cozy feel, but they will also revamp the look of your home! Having fabric can help reduce the effect of moisture in the air. When choosing a rug consider the following:

  • Sizing: The larger the rug, the more insulation, and warmth you give to a room. Now if a single large rug is too costly or doesn’t fit the room’s shape or size, you can always overlap smaller area rugs!
  • Material: One thing to keep in mind is that not all materials are going to have the same amount of insulation. A wool carpet is heavy and thick and is going to provide more insulation compared to a cotton material with tight-knit loops.
  • Thermal Mat: A great option is a thermal rug mat or plush rug mat that will add more comfort and warmth to your throw rug!
  • Lifestyle: The most important thing is to choose a rug that fits your home décor and your lifestyle! For example, if you have pets an easy-to-wash material is best! There are also a multitude of colors and patterns to choose from so you should be able to find an area rug to match your home’s appearance.

#2. Keep the Doors Closed

This is simple yet effective. During the cold months, it is best to close all bedroom and office doors to help reduce the drafts. Be careful not to restrict too much airflow and never eliminate heating in the winter if your pipes are prone to freezing.

#3. A Smart Thermostat

A smart thermostat is an overall beneficial product to help you stay warm or cool all while saving money! Smart thermostats work off Wi-Fi to automatically control the temperature depending on your preferences and adjust the temperature while you are away/not in the house. During the colder months, you can set your smart thermostat to turn on the heat an hour or so before you wake up, so you won’t have to dread getting out of bed to a cold floor!

#4. Radiant Heating System

Radiant heating systems are going to be one of the more expensive ways to keep your floors warm. If you don’t know what it is, it can either be pipers filled with hot water or electric wires that are placed underneath the flooring to heat up the floors. This type of heating method is prevalent with ceramic tile because of its conductive properties, but none the less is also compatible with several different types of flooring including carpet! A benefit of installing a radiant heating system is that it is unseen from the surface as well as energy efficient.

#5. Insulate Your Home

Another way to keep your home toasty is to make sure insulation is throughout the house by filling any gaps. Some areas to focus on would be window seals, between tiles, ceiling joints, baseboards, and areas around the kitchenette. When you insulate the entire house, the heat that is naturally produced will stay inside the room, ultimately keeping the floors and walls warm.
